Hot melt is often used as an adhesive. Besides the fact that the glue melts when heated, so is thermoplastic, it contains resins for better adhesion.
Components hot melt
A hot melt usually has 3 components in base.
- A polymer (EVA, PO, Rubber)
- A resin (natural or synthetic, to improve adhesion)
- A viscosity reducer, for better processing (a wax or oil)
Hot-melt equipment
Hot melt is processed in specific equipment, the all kinds of 11mm glue stick guns available, Reka granule guns, or professional glue tank systems from e.g. Nordson, Robatech or Meler.
Hot-melt adhesives
hot melt adhesives occur as 11mm glue cartridges, but also in other sizes such as 15, 18 and 43mm. The most common form is granules for packaging applications (EVA, PO) and blocks of 0.5 to 1.0KG for PSA hot melts. There are also 200L drums available in the market.
